How do I activate my account after an invitation?
Open the invitation email, choose a password, add your details and set up two-factor authentication to see your holdings.
To activate your Share Council account after an invitation, open the invitation email and click Accept invitation. Choose a password and join the company. Share Council then asks for your personal details for the shareholder register and has you set up two-factor authentication (2FA) with an authenticator app. After that you see what you hold in the company's circle, its workspace on Share Council.
Before you start
- Who can do this: the person the invitation was sent to (a participant, such as an employee or investor).
- Plan or add-on: none. The invitation flow has no payment step.
- Where: the invitation email, then the registration page it opens.
- You need: the mailbox the invitation was sent to, and an authenticator app such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator or 1Password.
Steps
- Open the email with the subject "You've been invited to join <company> on Share Council" and click Accept invitation. The registration page opens, naming who invited you and the company.
- Enter a password in Password (min. 8 characters) and Repeat your password.
- Taking part through a holding company? Tick (Optional) Join with a legal entity (e.g. a holding) and enter its details.
- Click Join {company}, which shows the company's name. This accepts the Share Council Terms of Service. The Your personal details screen opens.
- Check First name and Last name, fill in Full legal name, Street and number, Postal code, City, Country, Date of birth, City of birth and Country of birth, then click Save and continue.
- On Secure your account, scan the QR code with your authenticator app. No app yet? Click I don't have an authenticator app. Scanning fails? Click Can't scan it? and type the setup key into the app.
- Enter the code from the app in 6-digit code from your app and click Confirm code. The Save your recovery codes screen opens.
- Save the codes with Copy codes, Download as .txt or Print. Tick I have saved these codes somewhere safe and click Continue.
- On Your account is protected, click Continue. Invited by more than one company? Your invitations opens first: click Accept for each, then Continue. The You're in! screen shows what you hold. Click See my holdings to open your circles.
What happens next
The person who invited you gets an email that you accepted the invitation. From now on you sign in with your password plus a code from your authenticator app.
In the top menu, Circles opens the companies you belong to and My Wallets shows your holdings and documents. An invitation on its own transfers no shares. Your holdings appear once the administrator completes the transfer; you do not need to do anything.
You can change your personal details later: click the user icon at the top right and choose Account settings.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to verify my email address separately?
No. Accepting the invitation link confirms that the address is yours.
The link says "This invitation link no longer works". What now?
The invitation was already accepted or replaced by a newer one. If you accepted it, click Log in. If not, ask the administrator who invited you for a new invitation.
Can I use a different email address?
Not yourself. The invitation only works for the address it was sent to. Ask the person who invited you to resend it to your preferred address.
Why does Share Council need my date and place of birth?
Your details go into the company's legal shareholder register. They are required before shares can be recorded in your name.
What if I lose my phone with the authenticator app?
Sign in with your password, click Use a backup code? and enter one of your recovery codes. Each code works once. Without the codes, an administrator of your circle can reset your two-factor authentication.
