How do I offer a bond for early redemption?

Create a new transaction from your bond wallet with the distributor as recipient; the distributor decides whether to accept.

To offer bonds for early redemption, go to My Wallets, open the wallet that holds your bonds and click New transaction. Choose the distributor (the company that issued the bonds) as Recipient, enter the number of bonds, click Create Transaction and sign the deed. Share Council records this as an offer back to the distributor. The distributor then decides whether to accept the offer and pay you.

Before you start

  • Who can do this: a participant who holds bonds in the portfolio, or someone who represents the entity (for example a holding company) that holds them.
  • Plan or add-on: none for you as a participant.
  • Where: My Wallets > your bond wallet > New transaction.
  • You need: a portfolio where the circle has switched on Participants may offer bonds to the distributor (e.g. company) (under Portfolio settings > Access and visibility). Without it, you cannot offer bonds back. Early redemption must also be allowed by the bond's terms.

Steps

  1. In the top menu, click My Wallets.
  2. Open the wallet for the bond portfolio and click New transaction. The New transaction form opens, with your name or entity filled in as Sender.
  3. Under Recipient, choose the distributor, usually the company that issued the bonds. If the portfolio has a redemption agreement set, the form names it next to Agreement.
  4. Enter the Amount of bonds you want to redeem and check the effective date.
  5. Check the Price per bond. It is filled in with the portfolio's current price. If the field is greyed out, the circle has fixed the price.
  6. Tell the distributor how to pay you. If your IBAN is not on file yet, switch on Accept bank payment (SEPA) and click Setup bank info, or switch on Custom Payment Link and paste a link. Tick Recipient already paid only if the money has already been settled outside the platform.
  7. Click Create Transaction.
  8. Sign the deed: in My Wallets, open the bond wallet and find the offer under Transactions. Click the pen icon on its row ("Sign this transaction"), then Sign.

What happens next

The distributor's signers or admins get an email asking them to act on the offer. They either decline it with a reason, or pay you through the IBAN or link you gave. Once the money has arrived, open the transaction in My Wallets, tick the confirmation box and click Mark as paid. A circle admin can also do this. Once the distributor accepts and signs, the bonds move to the distributor and each party receives the signed deed with the "Transaction Completed" email.

Frequently asked questions

Does the company have to accept my offer?

No. Early redemption on Share Council is an offer. The distributor accepts or declines it. Whether the company must accept depends on the bond's terms, not on the platform.

Do I still receive interest after I offer my bonds?

It depends on the deed. The Early Redemption of Bond Principal agreement states that no interest accrues from the date of the offer (the transaction's effective date), while interest already built up until that date is still owed. Interest events count holdings on the interest date, so your bonds stop counting once the redemption is completed.

Why can I not offer my bonds back?

The circle has not allowed participants to offer bonds back to the distributor in this portfolio. You then see no New transaction button, or the distributor is missing from Recipient. Ask the circle's Owner, Administrator or Portfolio Admin to switch on the setting.

Can I redeem only part of my bonds?

Yes. Enter the number you want to redeem under Amount of bonds. The rest stays in your wallet.
